First Days of 2024 Session

Note: The following came in from a Wyoming Democrat. While we attempt to share work that reflects the WDP platform, you may come across some words that are not exactly what WDP would have written. Perhaps you will agree with what you read below, perhaps not. Your mileage may vary.

In the first days of this legislative session, the so-called ” freedom” caucus has killed at least 13 committee sponsored bills that would have vastly improved Wyomingites lives. Here is a summary of some of those bills:

HB5 helped people get mental health help. This would address Wyoming’s very high suicide rate.

HB6 increased highway safety

HB37 created more serious penalties for intimidation of election workers and voters

HB85 would facilitate parental consent for social media use

HB118 funded local and state health services, local water and sewer projects, provided $5 million for mental health services. All funding from the American Rescue Act already allocated to Wyoming.

HB135 provided funding for Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy, Camp Guersey and FE Warren Air Force Base improvements

SF33 provided for rural attorney recruitment in small communities who have little or no legal resources

SF 40 provided funding for enhancement of outdoor recreation and tourism opportunities. This would have bolstered this economic sector and its many jobs.

The so-called “freedom” caucus is putting extreme ideology and fear based politics ahead of the needs of hard working Wyomingites and their families. They vote against giving taxpayers their money back by denying investment in sorely needed local community projects, growth and diversification of the Wyoming economy and job creation. Is this the representation we want in our legislature? Check on your senators or representatives votes on these bills at wyoleg.gov.
